Major Automation Companies Supporting FDT 2.0 Common Components
In support of the new FDT 2.0 standard, the FDT Group has launched the creation of pre-engineered and pre-tested common components to speed the development and interoperability of FDT 2.0 compliant products. These common components provide a complete tool kit of all of the essential interfaces and core functionality that make up the FDT 2.0 standard. By incorporating these common components in their products, companies are able to save significant time in product development and in the end deliver a product with greater compliance to the FDT 2.0 standard.
“Our Board of Directors conceived this project in early 2010 and we now have more than 20 companies financially and technically supporting this development activity,” states Manfred Brill, Common Components Project Manager for the FDT Group. “The depth of real world experience in our technical team has already shown itself in the areas of interoperability improvement and toolkit quality. We look forward to a successful completion later this year.”
The common components are comprised of two tightly coupled tool sets – one for the development of device DTMs and the other for development of Frame applications. The two tools undergo interoperability regression testing throughout the development cycle to ensure that they will be fully compliant with the FDT 2.0 standard and achieve seamless interoperability in the field.
“The development of common components is welcomed by our end user community as well,” states Glenn Schulz, Managing Director of the FDT Group. “Users have already stepped forward anxious to be beta test sites for the new FDT 2.0 standard. We are very appreciative of their support and assistance.”
